Older adults in rural areas face unique challenges in accessing the care that could help them age in their own homes for longer. Most older people want to age in place in their own homes, but 70% will need long-term care – help with activities of daily living like eating, bathing and dressing. Long-term care can keep you living independently for longer, but it can be expensive, and most people don’t have a way to pay for it.

Fund Fact: Aging and nutrition
Proper nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining health and independence as we age. Our bodies undergo significant changes that affect how we process nutrients, making it essential to adapt our eating habits to support our evolving needs. Focusing on proper nutrition, staying physically active, and utilizing available resources can significantly enhance quality of life as we age. By understanding our changing nutritional needs and making informed choices, we can maintain independence and well-being for years to come.

Monthly FAQ: Can I contribute extra to WA Cares to get additional benefits?
WA Cares is a social insurance program like Social Security, not a savings account. Everyone who meets contribution requirements and has a care need gets access to the same lifetime benefit amount ($36,500, adjusted annually for inflation).
