Approximately 300,000 Washingtonians have hearing loss and other hearing disabilities. As we age, many of us will experience hearing loss and need long-term services and supports to go about our daily activities.

Hearing loss is a common condition that can have a profound impact on someone’s life. Beyond the physical and cognitive challenges, hearing loss is closely linked with social isolation, depression, and anxiety. The inability to fully engage in conversations or participate in social activities can lead to feelings of loneliness and withdrawal.

If you are newly experiencing hearing loss, the Hearing Loss Association of America – Washington State (HLAA-WA) has a guide for how you can get started accessing the information and resources you need. You can get answers to common questions, learn more about working with a hearing health professional, find support groups and more. HLAA-WA also offers communication tips for family and friends of people experiencing hearing loss.

The state Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing offers programs and services for Deaf, DeafBlind, Deafdisabled, Hard of Hearing, Late Deafened, and Speech Disabled individuals, their families and service providers in Washington. These services can also be helpful for members of the general public who need support with communication.

You can receive a wide range of equipment and services, including amplified phones, iPhones and iPads with special apps and assistive technologies. Get more information on:
